Jan's Status

Seriously though…..

Jan is in the hospital, but she is recovering nicely. She went in on Tuesday of this week because she was in quite a bit of pain, and the Doctor (Johnny Howton, who’s wife teaches the College Freshman SS class at CABC), decided that she needed to have the mass in her colon looked at with a CT scan.

To back up a bit, she, through a recent colonoscopy, found out several weeks ago that there was a mass in her ascending colon, that would have to be removed, and surgery was scheduled for September.

The pain turned out to be that area that was bothering her, because that portion of the colon was causing problems. (A lot of technical terms were used, that sounded like yada yada, let’s take it out now.) So she went in and they decided to perform the surgery on Thursday.

Surgery was scheduled for 3, so they came and got her from the room at 3:20, and started the surgery at 5:00. If this does not make sense to you, then you do not work at the hospital. In medical parlance “scheduled time” is a term that is loosely defined as “a number between one and twelve that bears no relation to actual time factors”. We received hourly updates, and she emerged from surgery at 9 and was back in the room at 10. All went well, the mass was removed, and was pretty much as routine as this procedure can be.

The Doctor said that the mass was harder than he would have liked, which indicates an increased probability of cancer cells being present, but that it had not penetrated the colon lining, which indicates that if there are cancer cells, there is a greater likelihood that they have not spread outside of that area. We should know more about that on Tuesday when pathology reports are made.

Thanks for your prayers so far, and keep it up as we wait for the results, and Jan continues the recovery process.

I told her that she needed to hurry up and get home, because the kitchen sink is almost completely full of dishes, and I am not sure where we will put the dirty plates if something doesn’t happen soon.

Dinner and a Moving Day

Another Tuesday Night Dinner happened earlier this week, and it was good eating and a good time.

It featured Jan’s pepper steak and rice, and peach cobbler, and it culminated in a no rules/no score/no timer game of MadGab.

Week a doves cord button hoe, we just chose to play it that way.

We were sad that everyone couldn’t make it, but it was still a lot of fun, and I, for one, am looking forward to lots more opportunities for everyone to get together and fellowship and relax at the house.

Today we also moved Staci into Collins on the Baylor University campus, so that was something of a milestone. Our little girl gone to college, and packed up and moved out of our house. Thankfully she is only the short ride away, so we hope to still see a lot of her, but it makes her mother and I a little sad, a little anxious and a whole lot proud to see her stepping out and becoming more independent.

Sorry that there are no pictures, I will try to have some, as well as some funnier comments next time.

Last Tuesday Night's Dinner

While Cliff was purging, and Teresa had to stay and hold his hand, the rest of us got together for a night of fun and festivity. There was the contest to see who could stick the most grapes in their mouth....

Brittney got up to three. Trenton thought it best to obscure a portion of his face, in the event he someday run for public office. You know, plausible deniability. Ties are optional for the Tuesday night dinner. Steve had 25 in his mouth...
Elizabeth just chose to chuckle with her eyes closed, as if she were afraid to keep them open. Or was she actually just praying for deliverance? You know she talks like somebody from Deliverance....
Scott could not talk his friends from the Newsboys into playing,

So Staci won with a current indoor record of 28 grapes!!!

All in all, a great time was had by some, the food was good (black bean and beef burritos, mmmm, although definitely not purge-approved), and the UNO Attack was a lot of fun (when Brittney stopped cheating).

First Post

OK, so Cliff and Brittney tell me that I need to start a Blog and put my random thoughts down for general review, so this is the start. I will try to think of something amusing to share, but I am not sure that I can stand up to the pressure.
